Sheryl J. Burchill

I come from an artistic family which includes my brother Richard and my two sisters, Jennifer and Lenice. We were raised by a strong mother who in turn received ongoing support and guidance from our grandparents. The stories from my mother and grandparents, the landscape and the environment are inspiration for my artwork.

Connection with my culture and the sense of knowing where I come from, keeps me grounded as a person. Being able to share all I have learnt about my Culture through my Art, is a Blessing.

I have a Diploma in ATSI Cultural Visual Arts through Tropical North Queensland TAFE. Methods I have studied include screen printing, batik, lino printing, textile printing and etching. I have also undertaken many creative workshops.

Through my Kuku Yalanji Cultural knowledge I use contemporary techniques on mixed mediums to express my ideas of my Traditional Stories.

I hope you get as much satisfaction out of owning one of my pieces, as I had creating it.
